I (accidentally) started and grew my own cult following. Now, I want to show you how you can start a cult, too...

Here's the tear-jerking back story... 

It started on 10pm on a sweaty night in a crowded cafe in the town of Makeni in Sierra Leone. Throngs of jaded runners were preparing for an inevitably poor night of sleep before running the marathon the next day... at 5am. Enthusiasm was low.

And that is when I realised that David was gonna be my running BFF. When we returned to the UK, we spent time drinking and talking running. So much so, we recorded our conversations and launched a podcast called Bad Boy Running. It was unprofessional, badly produced and was unlike anything else in the running media.

Fast forward several years later and the little podcast had transformed into a community.. and purely by accident, a fully fledged cult. It was only when I was asked to run a workshop for a business group of which I was part that I chose the headline (to be sassy), How To Start A Cult. 

Upon looking at the criteria, it became clear that was very much what were dealing with. Within the next 18 months, 

When I met David I was a running journalist. Before starting the podcast, I became a sales copywriter working with clients in the UK and US to write promotions that hit six, seven and eight figures of revenue. 

Having compared the ease with which we built the Bad Boy Running community and the opportunities and revenue which flowed to us without much effort, my eyes were opened to a new approach.

I had written and published the book of the same name, which became a 3 x Amazon best-seller – on Christmas Day, no less – and was a finalist in the Business Book Awards. 
I had also launched an agency and more and more clients were coming to me and asking whether we could help them apply the principles in the book.

Growing a cult has been the best thing I've ever done and it has brought opportunities that would never have been available otherwise.
